About The Mariachi Ghost:
From driving rhythms and soaring melodies, to brooding synths and dreamy vocal breaks, The Mariachi Ghost fuses traditional Mexican song, progressive rock, and a flair for the dramatic, to ignite the world of their namesake's tenuous existence.
The band released their debut album in November 2013, which has reached radio stations in France, the Netherlands, Australia, and Mexico, while also making its way through the college charts in Canada. Most recently, The Mariachi Ghost won the award for «Best World Music Album» at the 2014 Western Canadian Music Awards.
Their writing explores the mythos of a justice-seeking Charro. Seven musicians interweave diverse genres and rhythms to create a soundscape that is dramatic, haunting, and explosive. They're joined on stage by dancer and band-mate Alexandra Garrido, who acts as a conduit of the music, expertly assuming its auras of sorrow, reflection, and rage. The result is a rich mixture somewhere between Pink Floyd and a traditional serenata, infused with contemporary dance. a ballet for the dead.
The Good Will is an accessible venue. Seating is limited and not guaranteed with a ticket.
— FUNDRAISER DETAILS:
The Mariachi Ghost and the Xanad00ds will be performing Nov 18th at the Goodwill Social Club. Part of the proceeds from this concert will be dedicated to helping Mexicans coping with the consequences of the devastating Sept earthquakes.
The band has chosen two specific groups to help. “El Colectivo de cineastas independientes” from Mexico City and el “Centro de documentación del son jarocho” from Jáltipan, Veracruz. The “Colectivo” is helping to rebuild and train workers in the communities of Buenavista and el Organal, Puebla and the “Centro de documentación” is a cultural centre that promotes teaches traditional Mexican music and they need help to rebuild their centre which was damaged beyond repair during the earthquakes.
We’ve chosen these two organisations because we have close personal ties each of them. Jorge studied with the organizers of el “Colectivo” in Mexico City. Gabriel worked for the “Centro de documentación”, and he, Alexandra and Ian have all studied son jarocho music there over last decade.
Part of the proceeds of the concert will be donated to these organizations. There will also be a donation box at the Goodwill during the event. If you want to donate now, or at any time, please follow the links below.
All Canadian donations to the “Mexico Rises Fund” until November 18th will be dedicated to the “Colectivo’s” rebuilding project in Buenavista and el Organal, Puebla. The gofundme page for the Centro de documentación will help relocate the organizers and rebuild the centre and its archives in Jáltipan, Veracruz.
All of your donations will go directly to these two causes. The Canadian Dollar is quite strong compared to the Mexican Peso right now, so your gift goes a long way.
