hearing beyond sight…

Developing the ability to focus your listening & awareness to sound within an environment is essential for effective field recording. Being able to focus your hearing beyond what you see requires both the practice and acknowledgement of being present within time + space. This workshop will give participants the opportunity to explore their own relationship with sound and acquire the basic understanding of the equipment needed through hands on experience recording in the field. The structure of the workshop will be shaped by the participants own experience/interests in field recording with the intention of making the content relevant to all as we learn to listen from new perspectives.

Dates: Tuesday, September 12, 2017 (6pm-10pm)
Fees: $70 member / $90 non-member
Location: Video Pool Studio (300 – 100 Arthur St.)
Limit: 6 Participants
Instructor: Joel Mierau

Joel Mierau is an artist and sound engineer working in Winnipeg. He is always listening. His work is informed by this intimate perception of subtle changes in sounds and is a theme that influences + reoccurs throughout his work, often in the use of long tones and discrete movement.
